War of Independence

...In the midst of the North-South conflict centered on the issue of slavery, 11 southern states seceded from the Union and formed the Confederate States of America, and the Union tried to prevent this and protect the Union, leading to the Civil War. Today, the Civil War is usually called the Civil War, but during the war, the Union called it the War of the Rebellion, and the Southern Confederacy called it the War of Independence. Other names for the Union include the Great Rebellion, the War to Save the Union, the War for the Union, the War of Emancipation, and the War to Free the Slaves, while the Southern Confederacy called it the Second American Revolution, the War of the Union, the War of Secession, the War of Invasion from the North, the War to Protect the Constitution, and the War Between the States.
