Directoire style - Directoire style (English spelling)
A style of architecture and crafts. It was named after the Directoire, the government of the French government from 1795 to 1799, during the latter part of the French Revolution. It was from around 1750 to 1830 and was transitional from the Louis style to the Empire style. It was a reaction against the decorativeness of Rococo, and was based on squares and straight lines, with an intention to revive the purity of antiquity.
