Oseto [town] - Oseto

Japanese: 大瀬戸[町] - おおせと
Oseto [town] - Oseto
This old town occupies the western part of the Nishisonogi Peninsula and Matsushima in Nishisonogi County, Nagasaki Prefecture. Kashinoura, in the center, was the port of coal shipment for the Matsushima undersea coalfields, but the coalfields were closed when the coal mines were submerged in 1934. After that, the town attracted related companies with the construction of the Matsushima Thermal Power Plant. In April 2005, it merged with Nishisonogi County's Nishisonogi Town, Saikai Town, Oshima Town, and Sakito Town to become a city. Area: 78.69 km2 . Population: 8,074 (2003).
