...Instrumental music also saw a remarkable rise, and the blind organist Antonio de Cabezón (1510-66) left behind works of such high degree of sophistication in form and spirit that later scholars called him the "Spanish Bach." Specialists in the vihuela, the court-style guitar favored in Spain at the time, also wrote excellent pieces, including fantasias and variations that are among the earliest in the history of music. Major vihuela players and composers include L. Milan, L. de Narváez, E. de Valderrábano, and M. de Fuenllana.
