When the weight reaches about 600-700g and the height reaches about 30cm, the sebaceous glands start to secrete and vernix caseosa (fat) starts to form on the surface of the body. The skin is dark red, blood vessels are visible, and the eye slits are just beginning to form. If the baby is born at this stage, it has some ability to breathe, but it is unlikely to survive.
