Accommodation is the process of increasing the thickness of the crystalline lens, which is a lens inside the eye, to focus on nearby objects. When this ability to accommodate decreases, distant objects can be seen clearly, but close objects cannot be focused on, resulting in poor vision. Presbyopia (farsightedness) is a physiological condition in which the ability to accommodate decreases with age, but when this condition occurs due to pathological causes other than presbyopia, it is called accommodative palsy. It occurs due to paralysis of the ciliary muscle or oculomotor nerve, which act to increase the thickness of the crystalline lens, or due to lesions in the central brain.
