...In the 19th century, this was consolidated into a sentimental style called "Russian Romance." Many famous and unknown composers composed these songs, such as Alyabiev's "The Nightingale" and Varlamov's (1801-48) "The Red Sarafan" (1833), and they were widely loved and sung. Many of the Russian folk songs known in Japan are urban songs like these.
