The name of a disease in Chinese medicine. Water is an important factor in traditional Chinese medicine along with qi and blood, but it also includes an interpretation that differs from current knowledge, such as the idea that phlegm is also caused by abnormalities in water. Water diseases are diseases caused by abnormalities in the metabolism of water, and the term water-qi disease is also used. The most important water disease is edema, but there are differences in interpretations depending on the physician, and they are classified in various ways. For example, the Jingui Yaolue states that there are feng shui, skin water, and fair water, and the Zhubing Yuanhou Lun describes skin water, hair water, and so on in addition to the ten waters (ten types of water diseases) such as green water, red water, and yellow water, and it is said that some people have classified them into twenty-four waters.
