...A tire with cords arranged perpendicular to the circumference of the tire is called a radial tire, and is used in sports cars and passenger cars because it is excellent for high-speed driving. The tread is the part of the tire that comes into contact with the road surface, and it plays a role in transmitting the force of acceleration, braking, and cornering of the car to the road surface. The surface has grooves to enhance the anti-slip effect and to drain water from the contact area when it rains. The pattern of these grooves is called the tread pattern, and there are three basic types: rib type, lug type, and block type (Figure 2).
