A city in central Kyoto Prefecture. It was incorporated as a city in 1937. The city center is located in the western Fukuchiyama Basin, at the confluence of the Yura River and a tributary, the Haze River, making it an important location for water transportation on the Yura River, but it also developed as a castle town after Akechi Mitsuhide built a castle in 1579. The northern area around Oeyama is part of the Tango-Amanohashidate-Oeyama Quasi-National Park. The San'in Main Line and Maizuru-Wakasa Expressway run through the city, and the Fukuchiyama Line and Kitakinki Tango Railway branch off here. Silk factories were built in the Taisho period, and industrialization began. The Osadano Industrial Park was completed in 1974, and factories for precision equipment, metals, machinery, and electrical appliances have been established there, and the value of manufactured goods shipments has grown significantly. Agriculture is in decline, but the city mainly grows rice, cucumbers, beans, and tea, and also produces bamboo shoots. All four of the Shikinaisha shrines in Amata County, Tanba Province (Ikuno Shrine, Amaga Shrine, Amaterasu Tamamikoto Shrine, and Araki Shrine) are located within the city limits, as well as Asahi Shrine and Ikkyu Shrine, which were worshiped by the castle town's retainers and townspeople. In the northern part of the city, Mt. Mitake, which was formerly the border between Tanba and Tango, has long been opened as a sacred mountain site, and Zao Gongen (now Mitake Shrine) is enshrined there. Ancient temples include Daigoji Temple and Choanji Temple of the Nanzenji branch of the Rinzai sect, Kinkoji Temple, Ikoji Temple, and Kannonji Temple of the Koyasan Shingon sect, and Tenneiji Temple of the Myoshinji branch of the Rinzai sect. In January 2006, Oe Town of Kasa County, Yakuno Town of Amata County, and Miwa Town were incorporated. The area is 552.54 km 2 . 79,652 people (2010). → Fukuchiyama → Related topics Suzumebe-so | Fukuchiyama Line Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
