...A marine fish of the family Ocellariidae in the order Opolonidae (illustration). Fish of this family live in the deep ocean, have a weak band-like structure, and a mouth that can protrude forward. The English name comes from its shape. The dorsal fin first forms a crest, then continues long and reaches the tail fin, the upper lobe of which develops and curves backward. The pelvic fin is also large and extends backward. However, as it grows, the crest and pelvic fins shrink, and the tail fin often breaks. It has no anal fin. The body of the Opolonidae is silvery-white with numerous scattered dark circular spots, and a black line runs along the base of the dorsal fin. ...
