Yubara [town] - Yubara
An old town in Maniwa District, northern Okayama Prefecture. The Asahi River flows south through the center of the town, with the Yubara Dam and its artificial lake, Lake Yubara (area 4.6 km2 ), upstream. The main industries are agriculture and forestry, and the town produces cedar and cypress. The center is Yumoto, where Yubara Onsen is located. Simple hot spring, 35-52°C, one of the three Mimasaka hot springs. Take a bus from Chugoku Katsuyama Station on the Kishin Line. The Yonago Expressway runs through the town. A habitat for the Japanese giant salamander and the Japanese giant frog (both natural monuments). In March 2005, the town merged with Kitafusa Town in Kamifusa District, and Katsuyama Town, Ochiai Town, Kuze Town, Mikawa Village, Kawakami Village, Yatsuka Village, and Nakawa Village in Maniwa District to form Maniwa City. 141.37 km2 . 3,598 people (2003).
