Le Mirail (English spelling)

...The population, which was only about 50,000 at the beginning of the 19th century, increased to 200,000 in 1936, 260,000 in 1946, and 330,000 in 1962. Today, the city's population has expanded to the suburbs, and a new town, Le Mirail, has been built 15 km southwest. Its ancient name was Tolosa, and it developed as a Roman city under the Roman province of Gallia Nambonensis. In the 5th century, it became the capital of the Visigoths, and in the Carolingian period, it was the capital of the Kingdom of Aquitaine.
