Underwater park - Kaichu Koen

Japanese: 海中公園 - かいちゅうこうえん

A park that focuses on underwater scenery, and aims to explore the scenery above and below sea level, as well as for academic observation and nature conservation. In 1954, Australia designated the east coast of Queensland as the world's first underwater park, and in 1962, the first World National Parks Congress adopted a recommendation that each country should establish its own underwater park. In Japan, following the revision of the Natural Parks Act in 1970, the Minister of the Environment Agency designates the marine areas of national parks and quasi-national parks.

海中景観を主とし，海上・陸上景観の探勝，学術観察，自然保護を目的とする公園。1954年オーストラリアがクイーンズランド東海岸を世界初の海中公園に指定，1962年の第１回世界国立公園会議で各国が設定するという勧告を採択。日本では1970年の自然公園法の改定により，環境庁長官が国立公園と国定公園の海域内に指定する。
