A town in Itano County in the northeastern part of Tokushima Prefecture. The main settlement is Kajiyabara, which developed as a strategic location along the Muya Highway. Sugarcane has been cultivated since the Bunka era, and sugar is still a specialty product known as Awa Sanbon. The town produces rice and fruit, and also raises livestock. 徳島県北東部,板野郡の町。主集落は撫養(むや)街道沿いの要地として発達した鍛冶屋原(かじやばら)。文化年間以降サトウキビが栽培され,今も砂糖は〈阿波三盆〉と呼ばれる特産物。米,果樹を産し,畜産も行う。桜の名所松島千本桜がある。34.58km2。1万2727人(2010)。
