A corporation or other foreign organization established in accordance with the laws of a foreign country that is the same as or similar to a company (Article 2, Paragraph 2, of the Companies Act). All foreign companies are recognized in Japan as a matter of course, but when a foreign company conducts business activities in Japan, the Companies Act imposes special regulations on foreign companies to prevent them from evading the application of Japanese law or from causing disadvantage to Japanese nationals in transactions due to foreign companies (Articles 817 to 823).
