martial arts film

...Kung fu is a Cantonese dialect word for a martial art used for self-defense, and action films featuring Chinese martial arts combat are collectively referred to as "kung fu films." However, the term often also includes films that depict not only bare-handed fights but also fights using various Chinese martial arts with weapons (i.e. "martial arts films"; in English, this term includes Japanese "chanbara films" and the like). Kung fu films quickly had a major impact on action films around the world, including Enter the Dragon (1973) starring Bruce Lee by the American film company Warner Brothers, Dragon vs. the Seven Vampires (1974) by Hammer Productions, a veteran British horror film studio, and films that combined kung fu films with Italian historical dramas (Hercules) and westerns (spaghetti westerns). Cast and crew were sent to Hong Kong from various countries to create collaborations that mixed Eastern and Western genres, and in Japan, a karate film was made starring Chiba Shinichi and Kurata Yasuaki.
