...Dance. Originally called mazurek (Polish), it is one of the most representative Polish folk dances along with the polonaise. Since Chopin, the name "mazurka" has become widely known, but the mazurka that was popular in France and Germany from the early 19th century to the 20th century was called "polka mazurka" and was distinguished from the traditional Polish folk dance mazurek and is musically different.
