An administrative measure that strips ownership of a specific property and transfers it to the national treasury. In practice, it is sometimes called "bottori" to distinguish it from confiscation, which is an additional penalty under the Criminal Code. In the past, it was called "kanbō". Under current law, it is carried out for property that constitutes a juvenile's illegal act (Juvenile Law Article 24-2), bail bonds when bail is revoked due to violation of the conditions imposed at the time of bail, securities (Criminal Procedure Law Article 96), and bonds for the prevention of private monopolies and ensuring fair trade (Antimonopoly Law Article 63). The Minors' Drinking Prohibition Law uses the word "confiscation" when referring to confiscation.
