Union - Rengo

Japanese: 連合 - れんごう
Union - Rengo
Its official name is the Japanese Trade Union Confederation. In 1987, the All-Japan Private Sector Trade Union Confederation (Zenminroren, abbreviated as Rengo) was formed as the new national center of Japanese trade unions. Of the four labor organizations, the All-Japan Trade Confederation (Dōmei), the Neutral Trade Union Liaison Conference (Nutsurōren), and the New Industrial Federation joined after dissolution. In 1989, the remaining General Council of Japanese Trade Unions (Sohyo) was dissolved and, together with Rengo (also known as the old Rengo), formed the Japanese Trade Union Confederation (also known as the new Rengo). It has 58 private organizations and 15 public organizations, totaling 7.59 million members (1999), the largest in the history of the Japanese labor movement. Externally, it is a member of the International Free Trade Union Confederation, and has the Rengo General Living Development Research Institute (foundation), the International Labor Foundation, and the Education and Culture Association (company) under its umbrella. Meanwhile, a group critical of Rengo formed Zenroren. As a result, the labor world was reorganized into two central labor organizations.
