A city on the banks of the Kizil-Irmak River in northern Turkey. At an altitude of 1,270m, it has a healthy climate. It produces cotton and woolen fabrics. It is a key transportation hub connected to various regions by rail. The school built by the Seljuk Sultanate of Rum in the 13th century still retains the vestiges of Islamic art in Asia Minor. 312,587 people (2012).
