…In early modern fishing villages, the composition of the peasant class remains the same as in rural areas, but the peasant nets seen in the Uwajima and Yoshida domains are temporary net fishing operations permitted to the Urakata peasants who pay the fishing tax and other duties and occupy and use the fishing grounds in front of the village, except for the village officials who inherited the nets. They are small net fishing operations carried out by small fishermen in fishing villages who have weak rights to occupy and use the fishing grounds, and they were operated as communal nets or village nets in the gaps between privileged net fishing in some of the common fishing grounds in front of the villages that were also open to traveling nets.
