Widely distributed in the forests of Central and South America, there are two genera and five species, including the two-toed sloth Choloepus didactylus , which has two toes (claws) on its front feet and three on its hind feet, and the white-toed sloth Bradypus tridactylus (illustration), which has three toes (claws) on each of its front and hind feet.
