This is a diary in which Yamashina Doan, the physician to Konoe Yorakuin Iehiro, collected the words and deeds of the Grand Minister Iehiro from 1724 (Kyoho 9) to 1735. The title was originally "Kuika Yomon" but was later renamed "Kuiki." The "Kuiki" comes from the Minister's Chinese name, "Kuaimon." The contents cover the words and deeds of Iehiro, who was erudite, multi-talented, and critical, and also describe the thriving Yorakuin Cultural Salon. It is a valuable resource for the study of academics, literature, and classical culture among the nobles. There are many articles on the tea ceremony in particular, and the records of current meetings are posted, in which Iehiro lectures on tea ceremony methods, explains the origins of calligraphy, paintings, and utensils, and how to use them, making it the one and only tea ceremony book written by a noble. Incidentally, Iehiro attended tea ceremonies for Emperor Gosai five times between the ages of 12 and 18, and it is believed that the foundations for his later career as a great tea master were already being cultivated at this time. Iehiro left behind a huge number of "Ie no Chakai" (tea ceremonies), totaling 300, from 1713 (the 3rd year of Shotoku) until his death in 1736, and "Kuiki" was written down during that time. This book also contains detailed information on the art of waka poetry, courtly art, flower arrangement, and incense incense, and it is said that initially it was forbidden for others to see as it contains many confidential matters related to the art of incense incense, but there are also many copies. A copy written by Doan himself is in the possession of the Yomei Bunko. [Kouichi Tsutsui] Source: Shogakukan Encyclopedia Nipponica About Encyclopedia Nipponica Information | Legend |
