Regarding succession to the throne, there are two types of laws: those in Belgium and the Netherlands, where the Constitution itself specifies the specifics, and those in Sweden and Denmark, where the Constitution only specifies the basic principles and leaves the details to the Law of Succession to the Throne. Japan belongs to the latter type. The current law specifies the qualifications and order of succession to the throne, the qualifications and order of becoming a regent, the status and privileges of the Emperor and Imperial Family, and the Imperial Household Council, but there are no provisions, as in the old law, regarding the establishment of the era name, the succession to the Sacred Treasures, or the Daijosai ceremony. …
