Mieszko II

...Although Poland was considered to have established its independent status as a nation, the throne was by no means stable. (2) Disintegration, reconstruction, and division Mieszko II (990-1034), who succeeded Bolesław the Brave to the throne, was forced into exile (1031) due to a rebellion by his brother Bezprym, who had allied with Kievan Rus, and returned the following year, but the throne had already been returned to the German emperor. The year after his son Kazimierz Odnowiciel (1016-58) succeeded Mieszko II, a popular rebellion broke out against the imposition of Christianity (1035-37), and Odnowiciel was forced into exile again.
