…After Poland gained independence in 1918, musical activities became more active, and the International Chopin Piano Competition was held in 1927, and the International Wieniawski Violin Competition in 1935. Composers such as K. Sikorski, P. Perkowski, and G. Bacewicz made their mark, and pianists A. Michałowski, J. K. Hoffman, Paderewski, and Z. Żybiecki, violinists B. Huberman, P. Kochanski, and H. Schelling, conductor Emil Młynarski (1870-1935), who contributed to the founding of the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra (1901), and A. Rodzinski, who became a naturalized American, were active both at home and abroad. Poland suffered tragic and devastating damage in World War II, but was rebuilt as a People's Republic and efforts were made to build a musical culture. …
