...The name "Decemberists" came from the Russian word for December. In 1816, the first secret society, the Soyuz Spaseniya, was formed by six young officers of the Imperial Guard, including Aleksandr N. Murav'yov (1792-1863) and Ivan D. Yakushkin (1793-1857).
