Autumn tamurasou - Autumn tamurasou

A perennial plant of the Lamiaceae family (APG classification: Lamiaceae) that grows on roadsides in mountains and fields. The stem is square, 30-80 cm tall, and branches at the top. The leaves are opposite and petiolar, and vary from simple to trifoliate, bipinnate. From July to October, long inflorescences are produced at the ends of the branches, and several pale purple flowers are produced in multiple tiers that open from the bottom. The calyx is tubular, divided into two lips, and has a ring-like hair on the inside. The corolla is a tube about 10 mm long, divided into two lips at the end. The two stamens protrude beyond the tip of the corolla and bend downward after pollination. There is a ring-like hair near the base of the inner surface of the flower tube. Distributed from Honshu to Okinawa Prefecture, Korea, Taiwan, and China. Closely related species include Natsunotamurasou and Harunotamurasou.

シソ科（APG分類：シソ科）の多年草で、山野の道端に生える。茎は方形で高さ30～80センチメートル、上部で分枝する。葉は対生して葉柄があり単葉から3出2回羽状複葉まで変化が多い。7～10月、枝先に長い花穂をつくり、淡紫色の花を数個ずつ何段にもつけ下のほうから開く。萼(がく)は筒状で2唇に分かれ、内側に輪状に毛がある。花冠は10ミリメートルほどの筒があり、先は2唇に分かれる。雄しべは2本、花冠の上唇の先に突き出し、受粉後に下方に曲がる。花筒内面の基部近くに輪状に毛がある。本州から沖縄県、朝鮮、台湾、中国に分布。近縁種にナツノタムラソウとハルノタムラソウがある。
