...there are two Catholic congregations of parish priests who live together to devote themselves to prayer and pastoral care: the Italian Congregation of Oratorio and the French Congregation of Oratorio. The former was founded in Rome in 1552 under the leadership of Filippo Neri (1515-95), and after its approval by Pope Gregory XIII in 1575, it expanded to various countries. The latter was founded in Paris in 1611 by Pierre de Bérulle (1575-1629), following the Italian model.
