Kabuki acting and direction. It was popular during the Genroku period (1688-1704). It is a performance by young female actors in which spirits of the dead and living express their grudges and torment their opponents. It is often turned into dance using kouta and joruri. It may also include acrobatics such as tightrope walking, folding screen walking, and somersaults, and there are also performances in which animals such as cats, snakes, and chickens possess the characters and drive them crazy. Stories such as "Asamamono" and "Dojojimono", as well as "Sagimusume" (Heron Girl), are all derived from this style. [Kondo Mizuo] Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
