A town in Isumi County facing Ajiro Bay in the outer Boso Peninsula in southern Chiba Prefecture. Agriculture is centered on rice cultivation in the inland areas, while fishing is the mainstay of the coastal areas. The Sotobo Line runs through the town. Iwawada has long been famous for its abalone harvesting by female divers. There is a monument commemorating the origin of communication between Japan, Spain and Mexico. Area: 24.86 km2 . 千葉県南部,外房の網代(あじろ)湾に臨む夷隅(いすみ)郡の町。内陸部では稲作を中心とした農業を行い,海岸部では漁業を基盤とする。外房線が通じる。岩和田(いわだ)は古来海女(あま)のアワビ採取で有名。日本・スペイン・メキシコ交通発祥記念碑がある。24.86km2。7738人(2010)。
