Nipponanthropus akashiensis (English spelling)

...The actual bone was burned in 1945 during the Tokyo air raids during the Pacific War. Hasebe Genjin investigated the remaining gypsum model, and in 1948 pointed out its primitive nature and named it Nipponanthropus akashiensis . In terms of age, Naora argued that, based on the nature of the soil attached to the bone at the time of excavation, it was probably buried in the Nishiyagi Formation, which is dated to the Early Pleistocene, and was exposed by a landslide.
