Nursery rhymes

Japanese: nursery rhymes(英語表記)nurseryrhymes
Nursery rhymes

…the name of a collection of traditional British nursery rhymes. In Britain, they are usually called "nursery rhymes". The name is said to have originated from the collection of nursery rhymes "Mother Goose's Melody" published by John Newbery around 1765 (the title may have been influenced by the subtitle of the collection of nursery rhymes by C. Perrault published in France in 1697, "Contes de ma mère l'Oye").

Game songs passed down in the world of children are not limited to Japanese nursery rhymes, but are a phenomenon commonly seen among many peoples around the world. Generally, they are called game songs, game-rhymes, or singing games in English, but they do not always involve specific games, and nursery rhymes that are simply catchy chants are of course considered a type of nursery rhyme. Mother Goose is a typical example, and Jack and Jill and London Bridge is Falling Down can be said to be representative British nursery rhymes.
