A work written in the later years of Aeschylus. It is the only trilogy of three parts that remain intact, collectively known as Oresteia: Agamemnon, The Offertory Women, and The Charms. The name comes from Orestes. The first part depicts the murder of Orestes's mother, Clytemnestra, and in the second part, Orestes kills his mother after receiving an oracle from Apollo demanding revenge. In the third part, Orestes is pursued by the Erinyes, the god of vengeance, and is reconciled with the goddess Athena at her discretion. This tragedy depicts the efforts to bring order through law based on justice. It succinctly depicts the demands of the gods and the fate of the humans who respond to them, and is written in a unique, tense, grandiose language that epitomizes the life of a tragic human being. →Related article Agamemnon | Greek tragedy Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
