Japanese Drug Prescription

A collection of Chinese herbal prescriptions published in the Song dynasty. The correct title is Taiping Huimin Hezhai Kokuho. During the reign of Emperor Huizong, in order to correct errors in the pharmacopoeia (prescription collection) used in pharmacies around the country at the time, he ordered Chen Shiwen and others to revise it, and published it as a five-volume imperial compilation. It is a practical book that lists prescriptions for various illnesses and details the detailed intended use of each prescription. All the prescriptions included were thoroughly examined, and it was widely used even after the Song dynasty. It was also widely used in Japan from the Kamakura to Muromachi periods, and was used by many physicians. Many of the household medicines currently in circulation are based on the prescriptions written in this book. The current name "pharmacopoeia" comes from the title of this book.

中国、宋(そう)代に出版された漢方処方箋(しょほうせん)集。『太平恵民和剤局方』が正名。徽宗(きそう)の時代に、当時各地の薬局で使用されていた局方（処方集）の誤りを訂正するために、陳師文(ちんしぶん)らに校訂を命じ、五巻本として出版された勅撰(ちょくせん)本。さまざまな病状別に用いられる処方を記し、さらに各処方についての細かい使用目標を詳述した実用書で、収載された処方箋は十分に吟味されたものばかりで、宋代以後も大いに利用された。わが国でも鎌倉から室町時代にかけて広く用いられ、多くの医家が利用した。現在、流通している家庭薬のなかにも、本書に記された処方箋を基本とするものが多い。なお現在の薬局方という名称は本書の題名に由来している。
