Otaga-sama - Otaga-sama

Japanese: お多賀さま - おたがさま
Otaga-sama - Otaga-sama

...The Shinsho Kakuchokufusho records that in 766 (Tenpyo Jingo 2), six households were granted the title of deity, five to Yamada Shrine, and two to Hyuga Shrine. Although it was a small shrine under the Engisha system, it eventually came to be worshiped as a god of longevity, and during the Kamakura period it was made the chief guardian deity of Inukami county, and the priest was protected by the shogunate as a vassal. During the Genkō Incident, Emperor Kameyama's son, Prince Moriyoshi, offered a prayer to subdue the rebels, and during the Muromachi period, along with the activities of the shrine's priests, it attracted the faith of the masses, to the extent that it was said, "If you visit Ise Shrine, visit Otaga Shrine. I am the son of Ise Shrine and Otaga Shrine." "I visit Ise Shrine seven times, Kumano three times, and Otaga Shrine every month." Many warlords during the Sengoku period also made donations, and Toyotomi Hideyoshi offered 10,000 koku of rice as a token of appreciation after praying for the recovery of his birth mother from illness, the Tokugawa Shogunate also donated 350 koku of red seal land, and the Ii clan, lords of Hikone Domain, donated over 147 koku of black seal land. The construction of the shrine building was completed in 1638 (Kan'ei 15) by order of the Shogunate, but it suffered two fires, one in the An'ei era and one in the Tenmei era, and after a temporary construction in 1805 (Bunka 2), it was rebuilt in 1932.
