…a contemplative order of the Catholic Church. Since 1899 it has been officially called the Ordo Cisterciensium Reformatorum, and since 1902 the Ordo Cisterciensium Strictioris Observantiae. The name Trappist comes from the name of the Reformed monastery, La Trappe, in the Orne department of Normandy, France.
