…the upper edge of the ilium is arched and called the iliac crest, and its anterior end is the anterior superior iliac spine, which is easily palpable and particularly visible in thin people, and is an important landmark in anthropometry. The pubic bone (os pubis) occupies the anterior lower part of the ilium, and is so named because it is in contact with the vulva. It is connected to the opposite pubic bone in the midline by hard connective tissue (fibrocartilage) to form the pubic symphysis.
