Olt (river)

Japanese: オルト[川]（英語表記）Olt

A tributary of the Danube. It flows through Romania. Its length is 699 km, and its drainage area is 24,300 km2. Its source is at an altitude of 1,280 m on Mount Hasmaş-Mare in the Eastern Carpathians. It has been known since ancient times, and its ancient name was Altus. It leaves the Ciuk Basin, an intermountain basin in the Eastern Carpathians, and forms the Tusnad Gorge before reaching the Brusei Basin, where Braşov is located. Here it makes a large bend, passes through the Rakoş Gorge, and enters the Făgăraş Basin at the southern end of the Transylvanian plateau. In this basin, it collects the rivers flowing out of the Southern Carpathians and becomes a rich river.

ドナウ川の支流。ルーマニア領を流れる。全長699km，流域面積2万4300km2。源流は東カルパチ山脈のハシュマシュ･マーレ山，標高1280m地点である。古代から知られた川で，古名はアルトゥス。東カルパチ山脈の山間盆地，チウク盆地を出て，トゥシュナド峡谷をつくり，ブラショブのあるブルセイ盆地に達する。ここで大きく曲流し，ラコシュ峡谷を通り，トランシルバニア台地南端のファガラシュ盆地へ出る。この盆地では，南カルパチ山脈から流出する河川を集め，流量豊かな川になる。
