Josef Anton Stranitzky

Austrian comedian. He created Hans Wurst, the representative clown in the German-speaking world. After traveling around southern Germany, he moved to Vienna around 1706 and became very popular. This role was a parody of the grandiose plots of the "state dramas" of the time. As this comic type became established and his successors further developed it, Stranicki was called the father of Vienna's folk drama. In 1709, he also built Vienna's first permanent theater and showed his skills as its manager.

オーストリアのコメディアン。ドイツ語圏の代表的道化役ハンスブルストを生み出した。南ドイツを旅回りしたのち1706年ころよりウィーンに進出し，おおいに人気を呼んだ。この役柄は，当時の〈国事劇〉の大仰な筋の中に割り込み，それをパロディ化するものであった。この喜劇的タイプが固定化し，後輩がそれを発展させるに及び，シュトラニツキーはウィーン民衆劇の祖と称せられた。また09年にはウィーン最初の常設劇場をつくり，支配人としても腕をふるった。
