Ping-pong (English spelling)

Table tennis is a sport played indoors on a rectangular wooden table with a net in the middle, where players hit a celluloid ball with a racket to win points. Originally, it was called ping-pong because of the sound of the ball hitting the table, but an American sports equipment manufacturer trademarked "ping-pong," and the official name has since been "table tennis."

Its origins are unclear, but it is said to have begun in the 13th century as a pastime for French aristocrats.
