Lijiang

Japanese: 麗江 - れいこう

A prefecture-level city in the north of Yunnan Province, China. It occupies the foothills of the mountains such as Yulong Mountain and Guangmao Mountain along the Jinsha River in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River (Changjiang). It governs Gucheng District, Yulong County, Yongsheng County, Huaping County, and Ninglang Yi Autonomous County (as of 2016). It has a population of 1,148,378 (2010). Of these, ethnic minorities such as the Naxi and Yi people account for over 50%. The Naxi people in particular live in a concentrated area and have preserved their unique ethnic culture. In agriculture, in addition to rice and wheat production, sericulture and horse breeding are thriving. There are also many Chinese herbal medicines in the mountainous areas. In recent years, industrialization has progressed mainly in the fields of electricity, building materials, metallurgy, and bioscience. Lijiang Sanyi Airport is located in Gucheng District.

World Heritage Registration

In 1997, the old town built by the Naxi people was registered as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) as "Old Town of Lijiang" (World Cultural Heritage).

中国、雲南(うんなん)省北部の地級市。長江(ちょうこう)（揚子江(ようすこう)）上流の金沙江(きんさこう)に沿い、玉竜(ぎょくりゅう)山、光茅(こうぼう)山などの山麓を占める地区で、古城(こじょう)区、玉竜県、永勝(えいしょう)県、華坪(かへい)県、寧蒗(ねいろう)イ族自治県を管轄する（2016年時点）。人口114万8378（2010）。このうちナシ族、イ族などの少数民族が5割超を占める。とくにナシ族は集中して居住し、独自の民族文化を保存している。農業では米、麦の生産のほか、養蚕、ウマの飼育が盛んである。また山地には漢方薬材が多い。近年は電力、建材、冶金、生物科学関連を中心に工業化が進んでいる。麗江三義空港が古城区にある。
