...The House of Vasa was originally the Swedish royal family (known as the Vasa family in Sweden), and when his father, John III (1537-92), died, Sigismund also inherited the Swedish throne. However, as a devout Catholic, Sigismund was disliked by the Swedish Lutheran nobility, and was deposed from the Swedish throne by his uncle, Charles IX (1550-1611) (1599).
