〘noun〙① Something that is written down for future memory. Also, the document itself. A memo. ※Basho's Will (1694) " _There _are memos of previous hokku writings in Sugikaze's office."② Legal term. (a) A simple diplomatic document accompanying a treaty. It explains the interpretation or supplement of a treaty, or states one's own country's opinions and wishes. A memorandum. [Futsuwa Horitsu Jiji (1886)] (b) A form of directive regarding occupation management addressed to the Japanese government by the Supreme Commander for the Allied Powers after World War II, and the document itself. It covers a wide range of matters, including legislative and administrative orders as well as individual approvals and dispositions. (c) A document exchanged between the parties to a contract to clarify or supplement the interpretation of the contract.
