A software development technique. Data processing is categorized into objects (things) and treated as components, and the entire system is constructed by combining these components. Components can be easily reused and classified, making the development process more efficient. Information processed within an object that does not need to be made public can be hidden from the outside, making the object itself easy to handle from the outside. When the system is small, there is no problem if each person writes a program according to their own design philosophy, but when the system becomes large, inefficiencies arise, such as separate programs being generated for the same purpose or similar processes being duplicated. The aim is to streamline the entire system by standardizing these parts as components, shortening development time and improving the system's completeness. As systems become larger in scale, the idea of "object-oriented" becomes essential.

ソフトウェア開発技法のひとつ。あるデータの処理をオブジェクト（モノ）にまとめて部品として扱い、部品の組み合わせでシステム全体を構築していく。部品の再利用や分類がしやすく、開発工程を効率化できる。オブジェクト内で処理される内容のうち、公開する必要のない情報は外部から隠せるので、オブジェクトそのものを外部から扱いやすい。システムが小規模な場合は、担当者各自がそれぞれの設計思想でプログラムを組んでも問題ないが、大規模なシステムになると、同じ目的のために別々のプログラムが生成されたり、似たような処理が重複するなど非効率な面が出てくる。こうした個所を部品として共通化することで、システム全体を合理化し、開発期間の短縮化やシステムの完成度を高めていくのが目的。システムが大規模化してくると、「オブジェクト指向」の考え方が欠かせなくなる。
