A medieval samurai family in Shimotsuke. A branch of the Oyama clan. During the Kanki era (1229-32), Oyama Tomomasa's grandson Asamura built a castle in Yakushiji, Kawachi County, Shimotsuke, and used it as his base of operations, hence the name Yakushiji. The Yakushiji clan is famous for Yakushiji Kogi, who served Takanoiwa Moronao during the Nanboku-cho civil war. Kogi fought on Moronao's side during the Kan'o Disturbance, but in February 1351 (Shohei 6/Kan'o 2), his advice to Moronao was not heeded, so he fled to Mount Koya and became a monk (under the Buddhist name Genka), and soon returned to his domain.
