The fourth king of France of the Valois dynasty. Reigned 1380-1422. Son of Charles V. When he ascended to the throne at the age of 12, his paternal uncles, the dukes of Anjou, Berry, and Burgundy, and his maternal uncle, the Duke of Bourbon, who became regents, expanded their rule based on the royal estates (appanages), and the people, who suffered from increased taxes, rebelled one after another. Four years after he began his personal rule (1392), he went mad, and the country's nobles were divided into the opposing factions of the Armagnacs, centered around the Duke of Orléans, and the Burgundians, centered around the Duke of Burgundy.

バロア朝第4代のフランス国王。在位1380‐1422年。シャルル5世の子。12歳で即位した当初，摂政となった父方の叔父アンジュー，ベリー，ブルゴーニュの諸公，母方のブルボン公が親王領(アパナージュ)を基盤に支配権を拡大，増税に苦しむ民衆の反乱も相次いだ。親政がはじまってから4年後(1392)，彼は発狂し，国内諸貴族は相対立するオルレアン公を中心とするアルマニャック派とブルゴーニュ公を中心とするブルゴーニュ派に分裂した。
