A Korean storybook. It contains unofficial history, street talk, town tales, military tales, and other stories that are widely known among the general public, and depicts the subtleties of human feelings, social conditions, and customs. There are also many works that are full of sharp satire and wit about the common people, making it a valuable resource for understanding the hearts of the Korean people. While historical tales are stories based on official history, unofficial stories are based on unofficial history written by individuals. As a result, they unfold a more free world of fiction, projecting the vivid images of the common people.

朝鮮の物語本。広く民間に伝わる野史，巷談，街説，軍談などが収録されており，人情の機微や世態･風俗などが描かれている。また，庶民の鋭い風刺と機知に富む作品も多く，朝鮮民族のこころを知るうえでも貴重な資料といえよう。史話が正史をもとにして作られた物語であるのに対し，野談は一個人の手になる野史的なものが素材となった。したがって，より自由なフィクションの世界が展開されており，生き生きとした庶民の姿がそこには投影されている。
