[Born] July 31, 1550, Reifnitz [Died] July 18, 1591. Prague Austrian composer. His real name was Jacob Hándl. He started out as an Austrian court singer, then served the Bishop of Olmütz in 1579, and in 1585 became the choirmaster of St. John's Cathedral in Prague. He was a Venetian-style composer, and excelled in colorful composition techniques. His four-part motet "Behold, How the Just Died" was adapted for Handel's "Funeral Anthem."
